USING THE BIBLE This is a foundational course that explores the uniqueness of the Bible, examines the work of the Second Person of the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, in the inspiration, canonization, preservation and interpretation of the Bible. Specific guidelines for interpreting and using the Scriptures are explained.

SACRIFICE, SABBATH, SLAVERY, AND WOMEN – DOES THE BIBLE CHANGE ITS MIND? A four-session course that deals with how we interpret the Bible and apply Biblical insights to contemporary issues by examining these seemingly unrelated and yet very important subjects.

INTRODUCING C.S. LEWIS A four to six classes examine the life and work of the 20th Century’s most gifted apologist. Lewis was able to communicate in a number of varied kinds of literature, including the enchanting Narnia stories. Video clips are used.

STUDIES OF PARTICULAR BOOKS OF THE BIBLE Courses on specific Books of the Bible can be arranged to fit your congregation's special emphasis or to suit a particular occasion or season.

WHY EVIL? Four to six sessions examine one of the greatest challenges to Christian faith- the problem of evil. Building on the insights of psychiatrist M. Scott Peck that evil is “over determined” we examine various aspects, including the demonic, of this perennial problem.

DOES IT MAKE SENSE TO BELIEVE IN GOD? In four to six weeks we examine the traditional “proofs for the existence of God” and some of the current discussion around “intelligent design” theories. A video will explore some of the wonders of God’s creation.

WHY THE CROSS? A four session course that examines the central affirmation of Christianity – “Christ died for my sin” and seeks to explore several Biblical explanations of the Cross. We will also explore the meaning of “ salvation”.

WITH A BANG OR WHIMPER? A four session course that explores various understandings of what will happen at the end of history, the Return of Christ, and an overview of the Book of Revelation.

"A FAITHFUL NARRATIVE" UPDATED In the 18th Century Jonathan Edwards wrote of the surprising conversions that he observed. God still saves, and while not all of us have a "surprising conversion" we can be empowered by looking at some amazing modern day conversions - Malcolm Muggeridge, Charles Colson, Anthony Flew, Francis Collins, A. N. Wilson are examples worth considering.

STREAMS OF LIVING WATER Based on Richard Foster’s book of the same title, we explore the rich and varied history of the Church across twenty-one centuries. Six great “streams” that nourish us today are noted: the contemplative, the holiness, the charismatic, the social justice, the evangelical, and the sacramental traditions are studied.

UNDERSTANDING ISLAM Four to six sessions reflect on the nature of the Muslim faith and the interaction across centuries with the Church. A look at the Crusades of the Eleventh through the Thirteenth Centuries helps us understand our present situation.

THE ROOTS OF OUR FAITH The First Five Centuries are a crucial time in the Church’s life. During this time the Holy Spirit was guiding the Church into the full understanding of Who Jesus was and what He did. Our present life will be greatly impacted by a deeper understanding of this pivotal time.

THE LASTING IMPACT OF THE REFORMATION OF TH 16TH CENTURY Protestants today trace their roots back to the great events Martin Luther set in motion almost 500 years ago. Four great streams – Lutheran, Calvinist, Anglican, and Anabaptist, flowed from that time and are much in evidence today. This course will help you understand where you are and appreciate the heritage of others.

WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM THE CIVIL WAR? Many historians have pointed to the Civil War as the single most influential event on modern American soil. Prof. Mark Noll in his excellent book: “The Civil War as a Theological Crisis” provides much food for thought. Several sessions explore this important book and other insights on the Civil War.

THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO NARNIA The brilliant Christian thinker C. S. Lewis has fashioned an alternative world to ours, but one that shares the same moral compass. Explore how the central affirmation of the Apostles' Creed: “suffered, died, buried, rose again” is reflected in the first Disney Narnia movie.

PRINCE CASPAIN: LESSONS IN FORGIVENESS AND GRACE The latest film version of the beloved Narnia stories of C. S. Lewis is a very different picture than “The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe” and has significant lessons to teach. This can be a single session or we can explore in greater depth over several.

A NEW LOOK AT CHRISTMAS By taking a careful look at the text of the Christmas story in Luke 2 Dr. Ken Bailey presents a new perspective that deepens the wonder of the Incarnation. What doe the manger and the Upper Room have in common? Using the insights Dr. Bailey presents in his work: "Open Hearts and Homes in Bethlehem", Truth is once again rescued from familiarity.

UNWRAPPING THE GIFT The Holy Spirit is so often overlooked in our Christian thinking, and yet He is so essential to living the Christian life. Much is learned by looking at Sanctification and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit as they are present in every Christian's life.

PRESBYTERIAN 101 A course of special interest to Presbyterians exploring Presbyterian history, theology, worship and government. The Book of Confessions and the Book of Order are examined. This course is designed for Elders and Deacons, though anyone is welcome.

JOHN CALVIN AFTER 500 YEARS 2009 marked the 500th anniversary of John Calvin's birth. One of the March issues of Time Magazine included "The New Calvinism" as among the ten top shapers of contemporary cultere. This course explores the life, teachings, and impact of this piviotaql 16th Century Reformer. Topics coviered include: What is T.u.L.i.P?; The Women in Calvin's Life; The Servetus Debacle; Calvin as Generalissimo; The Devotiona Life of Calvin; and Calvin's Ecumenical Interests.
