ADD SOME MAGIC
LEARNING IS FUN
Too often the study of the Bible and the Church is wrapped in an excessive solemnity that makes it a chore
and not a blessing. To help overcome this, I have found it great fun to include a family oriented magic show
during the time I am teaching a course in a congregation. The series in your congregation can begin with such
an event making an opportunity for the entire congregation, children and adults, to come together or it can
occur during the time of the course. The show usually lasts about 45 minutes and includes much magic
aimed at children. I do not use magic as a direct illustration or teaching tool (the Gospel is not a trick!), but the
general tone of the show is to encourage a sense of wonder and even astonishment that is a good context for
learning about our faith, which ought to fill us with enchantment.
This is purely optional and does not need to be a part of the Anselm studies.
I have been interested in state magic since chlldhood and belong to Ring 7 of the International Brotherhood of
Magicians
